Privacy Policy

At Egg Farmers of Canada (“EFC”), we are committed to protecting your privacy and support a general policy of openness about how we collect, use and disclose your personal information.

The purpose of this Privacy Statement is to inform you about EFC’s practices relating to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information that you provide to us through the National Environmental Sustainability and Technology Tool (“NESTT”).

This Privacy Statement also explains how you can contact us if you have a question about, or want to make a change to or delete, any personal information that EFC may be holding about you. We strongly recommend that you take the time to read this Privacy Statement and retain it for future reference.

Personal information

For the purpose of this Privacy Statement, “personal information” means information about an identifiable individual, but does not include the name, title or business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization.

What personal information we collect

The personal information collected may include, but is not restricted to, the following:

How we use your personal information

The personal information you proactively provide through NESTT will be used for the purposes for which you provide it to us, including to provide you with a sustainability assessment. This personal information will only be retained and used by EFC for other purposes if you expressly provide consent for those other purposes.

If you provide consent, information submitted through NESTT will be retained and used by EFC for the purposes of administering the NESTT database. EFC will also aggregate data collected through NESTT for use in communications and marketing. All reporting and sharing of information collected through NESTT to third parties outside of EFC and its research partners will be done in aggregated form that shall not include information that identifies a particular farm or farmer. EFC will use aggregated information for reporting on sustainability initiatives, targets, and milestones for the Canadian egg farming industry to the general public, government actors, and other egg industry and external stakeholders, including provincial and territorial egg boards, the Canadian Poultry and Egg Processing Council, the International Egg Commission and similar organizations. For example, EFC will use aggregate information collected through NESTT in its annual sustainability report, which is made available to the general public. EFC will use aggregated information in newsletters and other resources published on its website, circulated by email, and in promotional videos. EFC will use aggregated information in domestic and international presentations to external shareholders. EFC may also share aggregate information with provincial and territorial egg boards upon request for use in similar communication and marketing activities.

When we disclose your personal information

We will not sell, license, trade or rent your personal information to or with third parties. EFC will only share your personal information submitted to NESTT with its research partners if you provide consent.

If you provide consent, EFC will share your personal information submitted through NESTT with its Research Partners, including the EFC Research Chair in Sustainability and the University of British Columbia Food Systems Priority Research for Integrated Sustainability Management lab (“UBC PRISM Lab”). This information will be shared in an anonymous manner that will not identify specific farmer or farm names. UBC PRISM Lab will use the information shared with it to update NESTT’s benchmarking and assessment tools so that the program operates on up-to-date information submitted by NESTT users. UBC Prism Lab will also use this information in its egg industry life cycle analysis and research projects. These projects analyze and measure sustainability impacts associated with all stages of egg production along the supply chain.

EFC reserves the right to disclose personal information to a third party if a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena or court order legally requires or authorizes us to do so.

Knowledge and consent

EFC collects personal information about you only when you voluntarily provide it. Unless the purposes for collecting personal information are obvious and the individual voluntarily provides his or her personal information for those purposes, we will seek consent for the use or disclosure of your personal information at the time of collection or after the information has been collected but before use (for example, when we want to use information for a purpose not previously identified).

The form of consent that we seek, whether it is express or implied, will largely depend on the sensitivity of the personal information and the reasonable expectations of the individual in the circumstances. In some cases, consent may be implied where the purpose for collecting, using or disclosing the personal information would be considered obvious and the individual voluntarily provides personal information for that purpose.

We will not, as a condition of the supply of a product or service, require you to consent to the collection, use or disclosure of information beyond that which is required to fulfill the purposes for which the information is being provided by you. However, your voluntary provision of additional information helps us to improve the NESTT database and the sustainability information and services offered through NESTT.

You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting us.

This protection applies in relation to information stored in both electronic and hard copy form. Access to your personal information is restricted to selected employees or representatives.
